My name is Kevin Hamilton. I am the Principal at Fairview Aerospace and Pre-Engineering Discovery School. We are all very excited about this year and look forward to working with all of our children and parents. We have a great staff here that loves children and loves teaching. Just wanted you to know that your children are the most important things to us at Fairview, as well it should be. We treat them like they are ours!! That’s why we go the extra mile, day in and day out, to make sure everything is perfect when they walk into those classrooms.
The staff at Fairview believes that regardless of the strengths, weaknesses, and abilities each child brings with them, they will and can learn. The mission of the Fairview staff is to enable all students to be successful. Our goal is to create a school where all community members, students, teachers, support staff, and parents feel that they belong and can be successful. The environment at Fairview will provide a student centered differentiated curriculum that has challenging expectations, where students are highly engaged. We will use collaboration while problem solving in real world scenarios encouraging creativity and innovation through the teaching and learning process.
Our Core Beliefs at Fairview:
Student Centered Classrooms
Highly Engaged Students
Collaboration/ Real World Problem Solving
Fairview Aerospace & Pre-Engineering Discovery School focuses on developing strong foundational knowledge for students in four interrelated domains of STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The curricula provides students with significant and meaningful opportunities to conduct investigations, gather and use information, and solve problems using scientific methods of thinking and technology as tools. Engaging children in these practices helps them develop a deep understanding of the world around them.
Kindergarten (Explorers) and 1st grade (Imagineers) will be learning through investigation with Lego Units on Simple Machines in the classroom and discovery lab. Also, through our magnet grant students and teachers will be going one to one technology with Wi-Fi tablets.
2nd (Inventors) and 3rd grade (Designers) will be learning through investigation with Lego Units with the WeDo Lego Program in the classroom and discovery lab. This program is a beginner program from Lego for students to learn programing. Through our magnet grant students and teachers will be going one to one technology with chrome notebooks (laptops).
4th grade (Astronauts) will be learning through investigation with Lego Units with the EV3 MindStorm Lego Program in the classroom and discovery lab. This program is a program from Lego for students to use programing skills to use for robotics. Through our magnet grant students and teachers will be going one to one technology with chrome notebooks (laptops). Another great opportunity for our 4th graders will actually be attending NASA space center in Huntsville, AL for 2 nights and 3 days were they will be engulfed in the Pathfinder Mission. Students will be using skills they have learned in flight in a real simulated mission provided by NASA. All of our students, K-4, will have the opportunity to excel even further in robotics and compete through the First Lego League, and will learn typing and research skills through our research lab and library.
You will be able to experience what your child has learned and will accomplish throughout their journey at Fairview at our two school wide STEM nights. They will be held Tuesday, November 18 and Tuesday, April, 14.
